Our Premium Kashmiri Kesar is hand-harvested from the saffron fields of Pampore — the town in Kashmir where the world’s most prized saffron has been cultivated for over three thousand years. Each stigma is hand-picked individually from Crocus sativus flowers during the brief annual harvest window, then naturally dried without any heat treatment that would degrade its compounds.
Mongra grade — the grade we source — refers to only the dark red stigma portion with no yellow style attached. This is the most potent, most aromatic, and most valuable grade of Kashmiri saffron. The crocin content is high, the safranal content is intense, and the flavour compound picrocrocin is in full concentration.
Four to six strands soaked in two tablespoons of warm water for fifteen minutes will produce a deep golden liquid with a fragrance that fills the room. This is what real saffron does.
